Computer Stuff Innit?

The Windows 10 upgrade arrived today.  I have yet to upgrade, and the beast is going slow for some unknown reason as it is, and I am in two minds whether to go ahead with this confusing upgrade business.  One thing is clear Microsoft will know everything about us that it does not know already and 'they' will be keeping tabs on us even closer than before.  If only I had brains I could use one of them Unix type browsers.  If I had brains I would of course be living in a warm country, by the sea, with several servants seeing to my every need.  As it is I'm clearly dumb!
I will await indications from the geeks around us as to whether this new OS works, if I have brains enough to work it, and what are the pitfalls, mistakes and obvious bits Microsoft have forgotten.  I suspect within the week a million updates will be flowing around the ether stopping the hackers enjoying themselves, interfering with peoples private computer worlds is a job for the police and tabloid journalists after all.
One thing, every blog now has that daft cookie message on it but I have not seen it on mine, does it show to others I ask?  I understand the need for this but wonder about going too far with such things.  Surely a small message, whether accepted or not, should suffice?
I have tried to remove things from the laptop today but even that went wrong.  I have placed the info on discs, pictures fill discs, this took time and was well organised I thought.  However as I went to add fotos to these discs they were either full or I could not find the appropriate disc!  Maybe I lost it, deleted it or didn't make one and deleted the previous stuff by mistake, anything is possible here.  Still it filled the morning didn't it?  My technical expertise is limited but today I must confess it was falling apart, I knew I should have eaten better last night, that's the problem!  Something is slowing the beast and with half a brain and the failure of the malware finders to find anything I conclude it must be me.  Bah!
This is typical of course, work on fixing things in the house is half finished and many half started ideas leave a mark in odd corners, usually wreathed in cobwebs.  My documents folder has many such great ideas I have began and dumped when reality came along, and this desk is awash with books and papers for reasons long forgotten.  The story of my life really.
I prepare for the kids tomorrow, the bullwhip suggestion has been useful, extra staff laid on, hopefully, and chocolate produced to keep the girls near me.  A useful tip for men failing to attract them, a bag of chocolates produce a response like bees around a honey pot!  If they talk too much give them toffees, that does not fail either as they cannot refuse and then cannot talk, wonderful idea that works!

I'll be interested to hear further from you re Windows 10, Adullamite. I will eventually upgrade but for now am going to wait a while until everything settles down and I learn more about it through folk like yourself and other reports/reviews I read.

I hate change! But, in saying that, if the change is for the better...and it is easy to follow, then that's okay. I've heard so many bad reports about Windows 8 and 8.1 over the past couple of years...anything would be an improvement, it would seem.

Before going you leave me no other option - I have to make comment on your comment - "If I had brains I would of course be living in a warm country, by the sea, with several servants seeing to my every need. As it is I'm clearly dumb!" I think it dollars more than brains that would solve that problem, Mr. Ad-Man. Servants cost money!

I 'upgraded' today, it was fairly painless, and seems to be working well, the best thing about it is that a finger or mouse movement no longer pulls all sorts of nonsense from the screen edge, or drops me into somewhere totally different from what I was trying to do.

I have two laptops. One is old and slow and has not enough memory nor hard drive, it crashes totally or freezes when its memory is overchallenged. But it has windows seven, and was SO much nicer to use than the super-duper fast laptop with heaps of memory and a terabyte of hard drive, but running Windows 8. My theory is that XP was the last windows version that customers really liked. Seven, well, actually it's fine, 7 was really a slightly polished XP to me, but Windows 8 was a horror, widely hated.
And I think Microsoft took so much flak, and lost so much customer confidence (hey, I almost bought a Mac, I was so mad!), that they truly can't afford for Ten to bomb. So far so good. All sorts of handy things are integrating nicely. It comes with an all-new browser, Windows Edge, to replace Internet Explorer. Thanks for that. I probably won't use it though, because I like Firefox, and IE was regularly lambasted for its insecurity.

I'll report further in a few days.

Carol, The are worth a try! I used chocolates to bribes the mums today!

Lee, Servants cost money, then I will just go unkempt. You are wise about Win 10.

Soub, Do all the links from the bar go over normally? I am afraid I will lose the hundreds of links if I change.

Soub, They cookie thing that does in fact appear above mine I now notice.
The warning that this blog might leave a cookie is what I meant.

Soub, Cook, er...biscuits are banned as I am too fat.

We have not received our upgrades yet. What makes you so special?

Jerry E. Your upgrade is available if you go to Microsoft's website.

Adullamite: Yes, all your links and everything in your browser should be there as before, all my desktop icons returned, so far it's not done anything bad to me at all.

Thank you for letting me know, Soub. We were planning on waiting at least month before actually switching in the hope of many of the bugs being fixed by then, but it is good to know that one can download a copy from their site when they want to.
