Joshua Reynolds

.

I like portraits.  This self portrait of Sir Joshua Reynolds is particularly good I thought. Instead of the usual sidelong glance and hands akimbo that we often see here he has cleverly put his hand over his eyes and brought life to the portrait.  Very good indeed I say!

Could it be that he saw a creepy old cantankerous Scot peeping in his studio window? (Oh yeah, I am enjoying a return to normalcy.

Actually he's peering into the future viewing his fame we are assured by one critic. I have to admit I feel he is looking beyond us.

RDG, are you talking about yourself?

Fish, NO!

Leaz, How can anyone look beyond you?

I guess that sort of thing is one of the reasons we remember him out of the mass of artists. Thanks for remindng me of this picture.
