Drink lots of that. I have shares in the brewery. (I am, by the way, a failure at capitalism, I persuaded my father to buy shares in Black Sheep Brewery, because I wanted to support the 'Black Sheep' of the Theakston brewing family when he rebelled at the family's sale of Theakstons to Scottish and Newcastle, an industrial brewer who ... well. Nuff said. So he bought the shares with the knowledge that they would be unlikely to make money, but would start a new brewery and give jobs in a town famed for its brewers {and sheep}, when my mother died we liquidated all her other shares, kept Black Sheep for those same reasons.)
Bottle of beer? That sounded a good idea after an afternoon of feeding and banging up poultry sheep and cattle in the pouring rain.... Luckily I had an overlooked can of the Nicaraguan beer of beers - Tonia - in the fridge (or the refri as it is referred to here which always conjures up visions of re frying things) so shall go to bed happy. Or refried.
Theakstons bought their brewery back from the chemical works, I can thoroughly recommend their strong ale, "Old Peculier" (named for the mediaeval 'Court of the Peculier of the Prebend of Masham'...) It's a very palatable strong ale, at 5.6% abv, I prefer it to Black Sheep's strong ale, 'Riggwelter", although that's good too.
Other great Yorkshire breweries, well, Timothy Taylors from Keighley, Landlord Bitter, they do a good IPA too. And Sam Smiths brewery in Tadcaster, not to be confused with John Smiths Brewery, next door, which is part of a huge faceless conglomerate. Sams uses home-grown organics, brews in Yorkshire stone squares, and in bottle form I'd recommend Old Brewery Bitter, Nut Brown Ale, and mmmmm Oatmeal Stout. Newer breweries include Sheffield's Kelham Island, makers of Pale Rider Ale, and then there's Roosters, (Yankee) in Harrogate, Osset Breweries, Goose Eye.... Great breweries all. Let's not talk at all of Tetleys.
