One Dreich Morn

While Australians sit on the beach grumbling about the 40% of heat I wandered across the damp park looking for a chink in the gray clouds above.  They fight fires in Tasmania which destroy homes and lifestyles, around here we light fires in the streets just to keep warm!  It's no fair so it is!  I was inspired this morning to sit here after what passes for breakfast and watch the folks outside cough their way to market.  By lunchtime the dank atmosphere has lightened to allowed me out for the cheap veg.  "Happy New Year," greetings came from the veg stall, desperate to keep their loyal customers.  (The other stall has many more for no good reason)  It made no difference to me, I am still using up the left overs in the fridge!

Glory be!  The afternoon saw the sun appear and left us with this lovely dusk view, Once I chopped of the view of the back streets at the bottom of the picture.  It is always a good piece of advice to ;look up' rather than around you.  The place you stand may be a dump but the sky almost always looks good, unless the clouds are gray of course!  Tonight the sky was fab, and hopefully it will stay this way, well, not when dark I mean.

Those at the beaches aren't grumbling about the heat...but those poor souls who've lost their homes and livelihoods for the devastating bush fires really do have something to grumble about...and they're not.

The heat has been horrendous in certain parts of this country over the past couple of weeks; and it won't be abating for a while from all accounts.

That's all part of summer down here...one year it's floods; the next bush fires...and then drought...the cycle goes on and on....

What makes me grumble and most angry are the idiots who are told that the ocean is dangerous at present with the wild seas and are warned to stay between the lifesavers' flags if they do go into the water...those idiots who don't heed the warnings...warnings that are given over and over again invariably find themselves in difficulties!

Anyone with an ounce of commonsense would know not to venture forth into those turbulent waters that are currently lashing the coast...even Blind Freddy could see that danger lurks! But no...day after day others have to put their lives at risk to save the clowns! Let 'em drown, I say!!!!

That's my grumble for the day! ;)

"We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars".
Oscar Wilde said this but your post reminded me of it.

When I lived in England, I didn't see the sun for almost two weeks. One glorious afternoon, it came out just before sunset, and there were loads of people out on the pavement, just walking and basking in those last few rays. (Richard and I were among them!) Your post reminded me of this too!
It's still England though, and remember you have your very long summer days to look forward to!

Lee, Very sad about those that have lost everything. It will take years for them to recover.

Kay, A long summer? The last one lasted five days!
