'Tapestry' by Carole King came out in 1971/ This album was so much one for its time that to me it says something still about those far off days. The album cover, the music, the thoughts, all combine to speak to me at that time in a way nothing else did. I bought this album, even though I am always in poverty, for about 38 shillings or so. I only earned around £12 a week! I played it constantly and indeed when I moved south in 75 I eventually obtained a tape recorder and bought a cassette (ask Mum kids) and wore that out playing it. Years change our opinions but I still say this album is one of the best I have ever known. Even the cat fits just right!

That brings back a few memories and more than that, the general atmosphere. In those days I was working in a university library for a PITTANCE, so I didn't buy anything.
Growing up I had a favorite aunt that I idolized. She was 12 years older than me and everything she liked, I liked! Because of her influence, I love Carole King, Simon and Garfunkel, Cat Stevens, Arlo Guthrie ...She's now an eccentric older aunt. And I still love her.

I'll bequeath you my album - I was never able to listen to it all the way through. In fact, you can have all of the early 70s if you want.
Odd how some of her songs on that album seem almost good now and they didn't then. I guess it is an acquired taste. Like Guinness. I don't throw up quite so much as before, at least.
Whoa, there is some really good stuff here. So, who picked it out for you, and how did they get you to actually post it?
A, I knew you would like it. :)
RDG, She sounds OK to me this aunt. Not sure she is 'older' myself.
Max, Philistine!
Jerry, How come you like this?
Carole King is superb. Adele is, perhaps, the modern day equivalent.
Mike, King is superb!
