Outages

So, AWS, Amazon Web Services, went down early this morning leaving vast numbers of large organisations with no internet service.  This did not affect me, I never noticed anything until the media started weeping about it, but the machine is a bit slower, possibly because some are affected.
Twice in recent days the ISP has gone down, no reason stated.  Once for a few minutes, the second time for almost an hour.  An hour!  An hour without life!  I began to think I might have to start speaking to people, outside!  Luckily this did not result.  I breathed easier.
Once again we see how easily society can be halted.  All the best security services cannot stop a hacker destroying the system if he decides to.  Mistakes and accident may be responsible for these outages but one day it will be an enemy closing society down for a long time, with hopefully only the defence systems still working.  Maybe...
I always thought cutting of electricity will kill a city, all will grind to a halt, and today so many have ability to cope with this.  We struggled with Covid, how will we deal with no electricity or internet?
Dearie me, if it comes to a halt we might just have to read a book...
