A Wee Motor

To unwind what I euphemistically refer to as my 'mind,' after leaving the busy museum this lunchtime I wandered through the joyful throng in the market place.  While bumping into one another, grumbling about prices, and then threatening the kids, they all beheld the tannoys cheerful Christmas music with delight.  Naturally I muttered "Bah! Humbug!" at every smile I noticed.  In the middle of all this I came upon the 'Kit' car.  There she sat, chatting away, as people crowded around taking pictures.

The owner stood by proudly, occasionally chatting about the car to interested passersby, mostly men.  The inside looks a bit like something out of TV, er I mean....  I've noticed the car here before during special events, and if you own such a creature you really need to show it off now and again or it's just a waste of time and money.  Whether he created the car himself or bought it I know not, but looking at this tells me I must get the tyres on my bike pumped up again.

I wouldn't be game to drive that car out of the garage! For sure there would be some idiots around who would key it just for the hell of it.

It would be fun, however, to go for at least one ride in it.

Back in 1963 when I was a teenager living still in Gympie, I did go for a ride in the first E-Type jaguar in Queensland. The fellow who owned it, a Lenny Robinson, was a friend of a friend - all of whom were car mad at the time and kept their vehicles highly-maintained. I'll never forget that ride; it was the first and only time I'd driven in an E-Type - it was a great ride! It went like the wind...a fast wind! The fellow who owned it became a collector of jaguars later in his life, I learned.

The dashboard looks really festive - I suppose he likes to bring it out at this time of year :)

That dashboard looks like something from a game show....

Not sure if you all realised what the car is. It is called 'Kit,' and this is a replica of the car used in the 'Knight Rider' TV series of a few years ago.

Lee, I suspect this will be stored away, just for the insurance cover alone. A latest Jaguar is supposed to be a new 'E'-type, find your rich friend again quick!

Jenny, It would look great in the dark!

Fly, Bruce Forsyth is coming in now!

Knight Rider now that brings back memories, just like a Man from uncle and Joe90.

I'll be interested to see what the new E Type looks like when it's released, Adullamite.

The fellow I mentioned in my post above did end up quite wealthy, apparently. He became owner of a trucking company. I didn't know him well - he was a friend of a friend...and the friend organised for him to take me for a ride in his jag at that time.

Coincidentally, however, when I moved back to Gympie in 1998, my next door neighbours were related to him. The husband and the E-Type Jaguar owner were brothers.

I remember that thing...
It was practically sentient. The props guys had a field-day trying to make the interior look futuristic.
Now, like any other attempt from the past, it just looks ridiculous.
Our era has sought to do away with clutter and information overload in cars and aircraft. If we re-imagined it now, there would probably just be a clip for an iphone..........
