Trees
I Tthink that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

I think that I shall never see
A billboard lovely as a tree
Indeed, unless the billboards fall
I'll never see a tree at all.

I was rooted to the spot reading this!!
Awh so there is a romantic side to you.
RDG, What an observant man Nash was.
Lee, I see what you did there!
Mo, You mean it hasn't shown before....?
"I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree".
Well, the first couplet is a pretty, and memorable one.
Sadly it's all downhill from there.
Joyce Kilmer's total poetic output, in my opinion, is about at the same level as messages in Christmas crackers, and not as good as Tesco's Finest' crackers....
Ogden Nash, on the other hand, -Hahahahaaaa....
Ogden Nash, on seduction: "Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker!"
We're expecting snow tonight, how's the land of Adullam?
I've heard that Kilmer lady was a closet lumberjack.
Here is a picture of the trees outside the former
Aline Murry's widow house. Note how the one in
the center, especially, seems to have its hungry
mouth prest against the flowing brest?
I love this! What a fabulous poem!
Soub, Kilmer is a genius!
Soub, Possible snow tonight........
Max, Heretic!
Max, That pic is your weekend house.
Emm, A lass of poetic taste! Ignore the Philistines!
Snow did not arrive, or if it did it turned to rain this morning! Dreich!!!!
It always amazes me to realise that trees are huge plants. I don't know why but it seems strange that they are really just a larger version of things you grow in a window box.
Jenny, A good point, they are all just 'grass.' Kind of big grass right enough.
Oh dear, I am going to have to do a post about Joyce Kilmer now, giving this man the proper respect he deserves!
Kay, I wouldn't worry about giving Max respect. He's from Mexico!
