And riot police are there already trying to quell the protesting, angry mobs. They've used tear gas, stun grenades and rubber bullets.

What's to follow once the mad fans run riot, too.

I will never understand the wild, out-of-control behaviour of the football/soccer "fans". They go crazy of a few guys running around a field, lifting their shirts while chasing a round ball! Add the crazies to all those angry protesters, I dread what's to come.

This isn't what sport is supposed to be about.

Keep your eye on Costa Rica...I suspect if you blink you'll miss them...

As you know, the antics of muddy oafs kicking a pig's bladder around, don't really excite me.
But of course, with a football-playing thirteen year old in the house, it's unlikely I'll manage to totally avoid it.
In fact, a couple of weeks back, I sat through the first football game I have ever attended in sixty years.
My critique of that one was that the kids' coach needed a kick up the bum, given that even a non-footballer could see that the team's defenders kept going too far forward, and thus, when the other side got the ball, there was nobody between them and the goalie, who himself kept venturing too far out, so they passed across and scored while he watched, helpless.

Anyway, I digress.
my question is thus: Are you sufficiently daring to prognosticate which team will win, and who will make it to the semi-finals?
I will be cheering for some hopeless underdog, if at all. I'd like to see Brazil field an all amazonian team, (no, I don't mean women), with curare-tipped blow-darts.....

Lee, Ah the rioting is about poverty, nothing to do with football.

Soub, Dear Philistine, the gap at the back is sadly a tactic much used today, forcing the goalie to play sweeper and a bad one in my opinion.
I off course will be supporting whoever plays Englandshire! As to amazons playing football there are already a great many doing just that, especially in the USA! As to who will win I have as yet no idea, but Brasil last night were not good.

Mo, I intend to, but if ITV break down yet again I may get rude.

I know the rioting has been about poverty and not the football, Adullamite. You may notice I wrote "protesting angry mobs".

But I won't be surprised to hear rioting amongst the spectators. It happens all the time at other games in the UK and Europe; one can't be that naive to think it won't happen at the World Cup.

As I said earlier, I will never understand why the football fans act so stupidly.
