It's still a bafflingly pointless activity. And one in which most of its participants don't participate. And now we're in the Olympic phase, where people around the world will feel triumphant if a person from, or at least tenuously connected to their country can do something a hundredth of a second faster, or a fraction of a measurement further than someone from another country.
Soub, Running around in circles is indeed pointless. Football is not. Team spirit, friendliness, joy, emotion and happiness combine to enthrall the thinking man. Of course if you are just an engineer.....
